We are not like Coffee Makers
My coffee maker is reliable. If I push the right buttons, the coffee beans grind away, and I
am served the precise amount of coffee with amazing consistency. However, we are not
like coffee makers. We can't deliver the same kind of results with the same consistency
and predictability over and over again ad nauséum. That is why we can't treat each other
like machines. God has made each one of us to think, feel and act in a unique way. If we
do not learn to respect each others' uniqueness, we will always be disappointed in each
other. At some point, people won't act the way we expect them to. And we ourselves will
never meet the expectations of others. The reason is simple: God did not make us like
machines. We are people. Each one of our callings is to be the best self that God made us.
The level of our trust is determined by our obedience and devotion to God, not by the
false manner we live as a pale imitation of someone else, trying with futility to be
accepted as someone we are not. We are not machines.
