We Need A Better Teacher Than Our Own Mistakes
“People should look their problems in the eye for once," I heard someone say the other day. "And do what with them?,” someone immediately replied. Great question! We often make comments like that without thinking about what we are saying. We easily say things like: "People need to learn from their mistakes!" But do we ever? Do we really learn from them? Do we really look our problems in the eyes? I don't think so, at least not very often. We desperately need a better teacher than ourselves. An awareness of our short-comings and problems doesn’t help us enough to actually change. We repeat our mistakes.
The Spirit of God is exactly the person whose constant guidance we need. Jesus says in John 14 that He leads us into the full truth. The Spirit is the one that reveals to us what He hears from Christ. In the words of 2 Corinthians 3, He will use our hearts as his new writing paper. He always makes us new from the inside. He makes sure that we are not constantly ashamed about our own inadequacies. The Spirit is the only heavenly Teacher we need when we desire true transformation. He changes us more and more to God's image – and His transformation sticks.
