The problem: we grow up
by Stephan Joubert
The problem is that we all grow up. We are adults. And we remain adults. Grown–ups have few questions, but many answers. We have life all figured out. We’ve already limited our opportunities, and used them up one by one. Children, however, have lots of opportunities and lots of questions. Children are curious. They want to know everything. Most adults’ creative learning–skills has fallen into disuse long ago. That’s why Jesus frequently invites us to become kids again.
Growing up backwards is the new password in God’s kingdom. That’s the only way to regain our adventurous spirit and authentic faith. And to have a second naivety between God and man. Practical childlikeness happens if we choose daily to escape from our from our safe cocoons of predictability and control. It happens when we choose to live before God with childlike confidence. Tim Robbins’s comment: “It's never too late to have a happy childhood,” therefore applies for every follower of Jesus. None of us are too old to become a child again before God and amidst others.
